City Manager Resigns for Lake Zurich Position

Director of community and economic development to be appointed to acting city manager position.

Des Plaines City Manager (acting) Jason Slowinski announced on Thursday he would resign his position in order to become the village administrator for the Village of Lake Zurich, according to a city press release. His last day is April 20.

In an interview with Patch, Slowinski said he was excited for the new challenges and opportunities including finance and economic development issues, similar to what he has done with .

“We’ve got a great professional staff in place,” Slowinski said in the release. “They are one of the best I’ve been around and I will miss working with them.”

Mayor Martin Moylan said, in the release, he would appoint Michael Barthholomew, director of community and economic development, as acting city manager.

“This will allow several weeks for the transition of projects before Jason leaves so the City of Des Plaines will not miss a beat,” Moylan said.

When asked if he had any parting words of wisdom for Bartholomew, Slowinski said he didn’t have any.

“[Bartholomew] is a smart, intelligent, professional individual with a good demeanor who will do a good job,” Slowinski said. “He will serve Des Plaines well."

Slowinski will replace Lake Zurich’s acting administrator, Roy Witherow, who will then become assistant village administrator, the Daily Herald reported.
