Sweeney Looking Ahead to November

The Republican write-in candidate for the 55th District “thrilled” with turnout.

Susan Sweeney, a Republican from Park Ridge running to represent Illinois’ newly-drawn 55th House District, will likely appear on the general election ballot, as more than 2,300 votes were tallied in unofficial results on Friday. Sweeney needed at least 500 to get on the ballot. I am wondering what is her stand on money making red light cameras in northwest suburbs, which do nothing to reduce accidents and improve traffic safety. Accidents had doubled since installation of red light camera and yet her opponent, Des Plaines Mayor Marty Moylan does not want to remove red light camera from Rand and Gof road intersection. Clearly, he prefer money over safety.   more ›

Result of Sweeney’s Write-in Campaign Could Come Friday

Anticipation builds for the Republican candidate and community activist from Park Ridge as she awaits the final count.

Susan Sweeney, a Republican from Park Ridge who ran as a write-in candidate to represent Illinois’ 55th House District in the primary on March 20, is waiting for ballots to be counted, the Daily Herald reported. She needs 500 votes in order for her name to appear on the ballot in November, and if she does not succeed, Republican leaders can appoint a candidate to face Mayor Marty Moylan, a Democrat from Des Plaines, in the general election. Sweeney will have to wait at lease a few more days to find out if her efforts yielded 500 write-in votes.
