Months of door-to-door conversations, speeches, debates and phone calls from the campaigns of incumbent Sen. Dan Kotowski, Democrat, and first-time political candidate and business executive Jim O’Donnell, Republican, culminated in great anticipation of election results on Nov. 6. The candidates for Illinois 55th State House District debated a range of issues in a public forum at Des Plaines City Hall on Wednesday.
Susan Sweeney questioned Marty Moylan’s plan to address the state’s $83 billion unfunded pension liability in a political debate at Des Plaines City Hall Wednesday. “What we’re talking about is a sinking Titanic, and we’re rearranging the deck chairs on it,” Sweeney said. Sweeney, a Park Ridge Republican, community activist and substitute teacher, and Democrat and current Des Plaines Mayor Marty Moylan, are running to represent Illinois 55th House District, which includes portions of Des Plaines, Park Ridge, Elk Grove Village and Rosemont. On Wednesday evening Des Plaines residents will have an opportunity to ask questions of and listen to those candidates seeking election in November to represent them in Illinois state government at a debate coordinated by Journal and Topics Newspapers at Des Plaines City Hall, 1420 Miner St., Journal and Topics Newspapers reported.
