Jamie Maldonado befriended frequent patron Tim Brennan and discovered he was on dialysis for kidney failure. Brennan had been on dialysis for four years by the time the two met, the Daily Herald reports. With 6,000 names ahead of him on the donation list, Maldonado decided to make sure Brennan’s health was taken care of by donating his own kidney to the man.
