Rivers Casino Workers Vote ‘No’ to Union

A group of parking and valet personnel voted against joining Teamsters Local 727 based in Park Ridge.

Parking and valet workers at Rivers Casino, 3000 S. River Road, voted against joining Teamsters Local 727 in Park Ridge on Oct. 26, said Maggie Jenkins, spokesperson for the union. Des Plaines Mayor Marty Moylan sent a letter of support to the workers on Oct. 9, which stated the workers would have an opportunity to vote to join Teamsters Local 727 on Oct. 26. Moylan, who has represented the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 134 for many years, stated he knew firsthand how unions could make a difference to workers. “A union contract provides job security and gives you a voice in your workplace,” Moylan stated. “Wages of union members are on average 27% higher than those without union representation, and perhaps, most …
