Moylan, Sweeney Clash on Unfunded Pensions

The candidates for Illinois 55th State House District debated a range of issues in a public forum at Des Plaines City Hall on Wednesday.

Susan Sweeney questioned Marty Moylan’s plan to address the state’s $83 billion unfunded pension liability in a political debate at Des Plaines City Hall Wednesday. “What we’re talking about is a sinking Titanic, and we’re rearranging the deck chairs on it,” Sweeney said. Sweeney, a Park Ridge Republican, community activist and substitute teacher, and Democrat and current Des Plaines Mayor Marty Moylan, are running to represent Illinois 55th House District, which includes portions of Des Plaines, Park Ridge, Elk Grove Village and Rosemont.  Moylan said eliminating abuses of the pension system by union officials and administrators would be among his top priorities, if elected. Candidates seeking election to represent Des Plaines residents will gather for a debate at City Hall on Oct. 24.

On Wednesday evening Des Plaines residents will have an opportunity to ask questions of and listen to those candidates seeking election in November to represent them in Illinois state government at a debate coordinated by Journal and Topics Newspapers at Des Plaines City Hall, 1420 Miner St., Journal and Topics Newspapers reported. The candidates will answer questions about their plans, if elected. This will be a good opportunity to see what Susan Sweeney actually stands for, what her real experience is and why she believes she merits being our elected official. I'm a Republican in the district who is tired of her mean spirited campaign tactics. She just trashed State Rep Mulligan and is now trashing Mayor Marty Moylan. Susan Sweeney has no experience in a leadership role, no background nor understanding of the local issues. She doesn't even live in the district and most of her campaign support is from downstate tea party supporters. The local Republicans don't even support her (see: NoSweeney.com ).
