Illinois’ newest gaming venue continued to hold its lead in adjusted gross receipts and admissions compared with the other nine casinos in the state during March, according to a report published by the Illinois Gaming Board.
Rivers Casino raked in more than $38 million in March, and the state’s top-grossing gaming venue cashed in approximately 10 percent more in adjusted gross receipts compared with the same month last year, according to a monthly revenue report published by the Illinois Gaming Board on Friday. For the second time since opening in July 2011, Rivers Casino, 3000 S. River Road, topped $40 million in adjusted gross receipts in a month, according to a report from the Illinois Gaming Board. Trespassing citations account for majority of police calls.
While the opening of Rivers Casino generated a lot of excitement and buzz in Des Plaines last year, it generated another kind of buzz as well. In the sixth ward where the casino is located, calls to the Des Plaines Police Department rose almost 11 percent, and calls to the Des Plaines Fire Department increased 29 percent. The Des Plaines Police Department responded to an annual average of 6,822 calls in the city’s sixth ward from 2009 to 2011. Officers responded to 7,560 calls in the sixth ward in 2011, 681 of those calls to Rivers Casino, said Mike Kozak, acting police chief. More than 1000 community members gather at the new Des Plaines casino for a private party.
Rivers Casino opened its doors for the first time Friday night to a list of VIPs and group of residents that registered a month in advance to attend the private party. Dozens of sample treats from restaurants in the casino were distributed amongst the crowd of political dignitaries, members of the Illinois Gaming Board, representatives of Midwest Gaming, employees of construction companies that worked on the project, business leaders and residents. Small groups gathered at tables to gamble and others pulled up chairs in front of flashy new slot machines to try their luck.
