Illinois police, Cook County police, Chicago police and local police departments including Park Ridge, Niles and Des Plaines, participated in a memorial service in Park Ridge on Monday.
Park Ridge residents and community groups gathered with elected officials and members of law enforcement to honor police killed in the line of duty on the steps of city hall on Monday. Members of the Illinois State Police Department, Cook County police, the Chicago Police Department and local police departments including Park Ridge, Niles and Des Plaines, participated in the ceremony, which was hosted by the Park Ridge Police Chaplains Association. Man’s face was partially covered by a mask or scarf, according to witnesses, police stated.
Police believe the same man may be responsible for robbing a gas station in Des Plaines twice in two weeks. Shell gas, 1605 S. River Road, was robbed on Feb. 14 and Feb. 28, police stated. “We’re of some reasonable certainty it is the same individual from the incident a couple weeks ago,” said Randy Akin, investigations commander. In both incidents, a man, with his face partially covered with what was described by witnesses as a mask or scarf, Akin said, demanded cash from the clerk at the register. Des Plaines police are searching for a man who they say robbed a gas station in Des Plaines on Feb. 28. The same business was robbed on Feb. 14, according to police.
For the second time in two weeks, an unknown male subject robbed a gas station in Des Plaines, according to Des Plaines police. A man entered the Shell gas station, 1605 S. River Road, and demanded the cashier give him money from the register on Thursday, Des Plaines police stated. The clerk gave the man some cash and he fled the scene on foot, police stated. A weapon was implied, but not used in the robbery, according to the report. Des Plaines police are investigating a similar incident at the Shell station that occurred on Feb. 14. Maine South High School and a daycare were put on lockdown on Thursday as law enforcement searched the area for a man police say robbed a Shell gas station in Des Plaines.
Des Plaines police are looking for a man they say is responsible for robbing a Shell gas station in Des Plaines at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 14, police stated in a press release on Friday. The man entered the Shell station, 1605 S. River Road, demanded cash from the employee at the register, police stated, took the cash and fled the area. There is video of the robbery, said Sergeant Christopher Mierzwa, but it’s being held as evidence and not being released to the public. As of Thursday evening, Des Plaines police did not have any suspects in custody in connection with a gas station robbery that occurred in the afternoon, according to police.

Des Plaines police are continuing an investigation into two men they say committed multiple residential burglaries.
The following arrest information was supplied by the Chicago, Des Plaines and Park Ridge police departments. It does not indicate a conviction. Two Des Plaines men arrested after committing a residential burglary while under surveillance of law enforcement were charged with multiple counts of residential burglary, according to the Chicago Police Department. At least three law enforcement agencies were involved in the arrests of Mariusz Poplawski, 24, and Sebastian Dybala, 23, both of Des Plaines on Feb. 7.
