Park Ridge’s Committee of the Whole has voted to pay the city of Des Plaines $2.5 million per year for two years of emergency dispatch services, the Chicago Tribune reports. The North Suburban Emergency Communication Center, which formerly handled 911 dispatch for Niles, Morton Grove, Des Plaines and Park Ridge, dissolved in August. Des Plaines later launched their own 911 call center, the Tribune reports. The Park Ridge City Council will vote again on the proposal to pay Des Plaines for 911 services on Feb. 18.

Des Plaines police are still investigating how many burglaries, they say, two men are responsible for committing in the area.
Two Des Plaines men will face burglary charges following a surveillance operation conducted by the Park Ridge Police Department, according to a statement from Des Plaines police on Friday. Mariusz Poplawski, 24, of Des Plaines, and Sebastian Dybala, 23, of Des Plaines, were arrested after police saw them rob a condo building, police stated. Poplawski and Dybala were put under surveillance, police stated, after being identified as active burglars on the Northwest side of Chicago and in the Northwest suburbs. Police followed Poplawski and Dybala to a condominium complex on the 8700 block of W. Bryn Mar Avenue on Feb. 7, according to the report, where Dybala waited in the vehicle while Poplawski burglarized the condo building. Des Plaines …

A 15-year-old girl faces charges after a fight between her and a 14-year-old girl ended up on YouTube, the Journal and Topics reported. The Dec. 5 altercation happened in a hallway at Maine South High School, the newspaper reported. Another student captured the incident on video and it was uploaded to YouTube, the Journal and Topics reported.

Learned behavior begins way before secondary education. While I'm not siding with administration I have to believe that parenting has to be questioned in these situations also. I think the actions of students has been deplorable and the inaction of administration, in the case of hazing, is unfortunate for the district.   more ›
