Thunderstorms Cause Excessive Flight Delays

Delays at Chicago's O'Hare Airport are averaging 178 minutes.

  The severe thunderstorm sweeping across the Chicago area is impacting travelers at Chicago O’Hare International Airport today. The airport is reporting “excessive” delays averaging 178 minutes as of 11:45 a.m. April 17. There is a Ground Delay Program in effect for flights arriving through 11:59 p.m, according to flightstats.com  Currently, there are not any FAA issued delays at Chicago’s Midway Airport. Delays at Midway are reported as “low” at this time.

18 Human Heads Found at O'Hare

WGN is reporting that 18 human heads were shipped from Rome and found at O'Hare.

Authorities found 18 human heads at O'Hare International Airport, WGN reported. The heads were shipped from Rome and bound for a research facility in the United States, the TV station reported. The heads were embalmed, in coolers and had been held up in customs because their final destination was not clear on paperwork.

Parking Garage Construction Could Begin This Year

Preliminary plans for the development at Higgins and Mannheim roads were approved by city council on Monday.

Work on the new parking garage planned for the development at Higgins and Mannheim roads could begin as early as this fall, and is expected to begin no later than 2013. Des Plaines City Council voted in favor of preliminary plans, 7-1, put forth by The Parking Spot to build a parking garage, hotel and restaurant at the intersection of Mannheim and Higgins Roads. “The market is great for what we do,” said Kevin Shrier, chief operating officer of The Parking Spot, based in Chicago. “We would start tomorrow if we could.” Earlier: Despite concerns including traffic, plans for Higgins/Mannheim development approved.
