The adoptive owner of a dog reported to have been beaten by a Des Plaines man said she recently had to have the dog euthanized due to health conditions she believes were related to a traumatic injury.
A dog reported to have been beaten by a Des Plaines man in June 2012 has been euthanized due to health conditions its adoptive owner said were likely caused by the abuse. James Robert Wesolaski, 51, of Des Plaines, was sentenced to 30 months in prison and prohibited from owning animals for 20 years in August 2012 after police stated he was seen punching one of his dogs in front of his residence in June 2012. The dog Wesolaski was suspected of punching, Teddy, a Lhasa Apso, was adopted by Evelyn Craig, of Arlington Heights. Craig said the dog was euthanized in January because it was suffering from pain. The dogs previously owned by a Des Plaines man serving 30 months in prison for cruelty were adopted.
The three dogs police took into custody after witnesses reported seeing a Des Plaines man punching one of the animals in his front yard earlier this summer have all been adopted by new owners. Chris’ Rescue Angels, based in Missouri, a nonprofit rescue organization that specializes in small dogs, organized the adoptions. Maria Falco, of Chris’ Rescue Angels, stated in a email to Patch that Teddy, a nine-year-old Lhasa Apso, and Gizmo, a one-year-old Shih Tzu, were adopted together. Des Plaines police released a few more details on Friday afternoon surrounding the arrest of a Des Plaines man charged with aggravated cruelty after witnesses reported seeing him pinning down a dog and punching it in front of his residence on June 7. James Robert Wesolaski, 51, of Des Plaines, was charged with aggravated cruelty, and, according to the report, told police he got into a fight with his dog because it ran out the front door, and he said, “I’m done being nice.” Police stated employees of the animal hospital reported the dog was seriously injured on Thursday. Des Plaines, IL -- A man was charged with aggravated cruelty after multiple witnesses reported seeing him punch a brown dog in front of his Des Plaines residence on June 7, Des Plaines police said on Friday. A witness reported seeing a man with long white hair in the front yard, pinning a dog on the ground and punching it. Earlier: Bottle of liquor stolen, cash stolen at Laundromat, more.
