Des Plaines gets approximately 20 inches of snow in blizzard.
Des Plaines Mayor Martin J. Moylan officially signed a Local State of Emergency at 10 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 1. As of 9 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 2 a total of approximately 20 inches of snow has fallen on the Des Plaines area. Currently, 18 individuals are in the Red Cross Shelter at Prairie Lakes Community Center. Thirteen abandoned vehicles have been relocated to the Prairie Lakes parking lot. Most of the major roads are not passable and residents are advised to stay off roads. There are reportedly 168 customers without power and were anticipated to be restored by 10 a.m.. This makes them look suspiciously like the almost identical $10 gifts available at Target except for the font. I recently had my car window broken in, so Kmart's $10 Auto Power Vac seemed like a better choice than the Travel Mug and Thermos or TV Organizer. The solid black plastic looks like pretty much any other hand held vacuum except this one conveniently plugs directly into the power adapter (formerly known as a cigarette lighter).
