Storm Update: 21 Intersections Remain Without Power

May take 3-5 days to restore power to residents.

More than 16,000 power outages were reported in Des Plaines after a storm brought winds up to 80 mph sweeping through the area around 9 p.m. Tuesday evening. As of 11 a.m. Wednesday 15,000 residents were still without power. Representatives from ComEd said it may take 3-5 days to restore power in the city. Though it has been reported that 80 percent of the city's roads have been cleared of trees and branches, 21 intersections are still without power and motorists are advised to proceed with caution. City officials said that public works crews are making cleanup from homes and vehicles their priority. Construction Update: Intersection at Marshall Drive and Oakton Street May be Closed Today

Storm sewer installation will cause intersection at Marshall Drive and Oakton Street to be partially or completely closed today.

Courtesy of City of Des Plaines Construction Updates website: Anticipated work activities for Sept. 27 to Oct. 1 are as follows: Spruce, Ash, Fargo: Cleanup and landscaping will continue, depending on weather. Marshall (South of Oakton): Curb replacements, driveway replacements and pavement resurfacing has not been scheduled at this time.   Marshall (North of Oakton): Storm sewer work will begin on 9/27.  It will take approximately 15 days to install the storm sewer from the south side of Oakton to Cordial.   The intersection at Marshall Drive and Oakton Street may be partially or completely closed on 9/27 and 9/28 in order to install the storm sewer across Oakton Street.  Residents are advised to use Cordial Drive or Dover Drive (…

River Road Will Be Closed Sept. 16-17

A section of River Road will be closed for two evenings.

Due to construction, River Road will be closed between Devon and Touhy avenues Thursday and Friday from 9 p.m.-5 a.m., according to the Des Plaines Public Works and Engineering Department. Detour will be posted.  View more Des Plaines construction updates here.
