Summer Fling to Fly in Des Plaines, After All

Des Plaines city council approved a plan to contract the same event promoter as last year, amid concerns expressed by aldermen, the Daily Herald reported.

It appears the Summer Fling will return to downtown Des Plaines this year, as city council voted in favor of contracting the same company to run the event as last year, the Daily Herald reported. Several aldermen expressed reservations about using the same event promoter, the Daily Herald reported, but with such a small amount of time to prepare, endorsed the plan. At Des Plaines Summer Fling in 2012 David Cassidy performed for thousands packed in front of the Des Plaines Public Library and the strip mall across from the Des Plaines Theatre. A Led Zepplin cover band, Led Zepplin 2, performed at Des Plaines Summer Fling in 2011, where Patch caught a rare glimpse of a Mexican wrestler, Lucha Libre, and the character Stewie from the animated …

Tuesday afternoons this February, teens and tweens can get in on the action at the Des Plaines Public Library.

Look around at how the younger set is bundling up this winter and you will see a lot of hand-crocheted hats, infinity scarves, and gloves. They keep the cold away, look fantastic, and let you express your personal sense of style. But hand-crocheted accessories can be expensive. A scarf made out of a $6 ball of yarn can cost $30 or more on Etsy. The same is true of the machine-made look-alikes sold at local chain stores. Learning to make them yourself saves you money and really customizes your look. In the past, crochet skills were handed down from generation to …
