The Des Plaines Police Department provided the following reports. Criminal Damage to Property, Graffiti Newspaper boxes, an electrical box and signage at the Cumberland Metra depot, 485 E. Northwest Highway were vandalized with graffiti, and reported to police at 8:44 a.m. on May 10. The graffiti was photographed, police stated, and a work order to clean it up was completed. It remains unclear whether former Des Plaines Police Officer John Bueno would be reinstated to the department or the termination would be upheld, Journal and Topics Newspapers reported.
The results from an arbitration hearing held to review the termination of Des Plaines police officer John Bueno were given to the city, Journal and Topics Newspapers reported. Des Plaines City Manager Michael Bartholomew did not comment on what the outcome was, according to the newspaper. Bueno was fired in March 2012; City of Des Plaines officials did not make public the reasons for his termination. Bueno and another Des Plaines police officer, Andy Contreras, were accused of beating a man in handcuffs in a parking garage while transporting him from Elmhurst to Des Plaines in a lawsuit filed by a DuPage man in July 2012. Attempted Burglary A man was reported to have been attempting to burglarize an office building on the 800 block of Lee Street at 5:22 p.m. on May 5, police stated. A witness told police the man was seen attempting to gain access to suites on the second floor using a screwdriver. When he became aware he was being observed, according to the report, the man fled the building and ran northbound on Lee Street. Authorities are investigating a possible attempted arson incident at Maine West High School, which occurred over the weekend, Journal and Topics Newspapers reported. Windows were broken sometime between Saturday and Sunday at the Des Plaines high school, according to Journal and Topics Newspapers’ report.
