Des Plaines Christmas Trees, Lights Recycling Planned

Des Plaines residents may recycle Christmas trees with regular trash collections through Jan. 8 and may recycle holiday lights at public works through February, the city announced.

The following information was submitted by the City of Des Plaines Public Works and Engineering Department. Holiday Tree Recycling Holiday trees from throughout the City will be collected by Public Works and Engineering through Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, weather permitting. Bare holiday trees — no decorations, lights, tinsel, or plastic bags — must be at the curbside before 7 a.m. ARC Disposal & Recycling/Republic Services, (847) 981-0091, will collect remaining trees the following week. Holiday Light Recycling The Public Works & Engineering Department will host a free holiday light recycling event throughout January and February. Des Plaines Offers Christmas Tree Collection

Trees must be curbside by 6 a.m. this week.

The holidays are over, it's a brand new year and it's time to finally pitch that old Christmas tree. Sure, it served the family well when it was fat and happy three weeks ago at the time of its purchase but by now it's probably starting to look reminiscent of the Charlie Brown Christmas tree instead of the one in Rockefeller Center. City of Des Plaines Public Works announced that ARC Disposal & Recycling will be collecting Christmas trees Monday through Friday. All zones will be collected. To ensure that your tree will be picked up for disposal it must be bare and free of tinsel, lights, plastic bags and all ornaments (no cheating by trying to get rid of that creepy nutcracker ornament from Grandma that gives you nightmares).
