Des Plaines Burglary Foiled by Resident, Police

Police were able to charge a Chicago man with two different burglaries thanks to a Des Plaines resident who reported hearing suspicious noises coming from his neighbors apartment unit on Tuesday.

The Cook County Sheriff's Department was able to foil a burglary in prgoress in Des Plaines on Tuesday. According to the Sheriff's Department, an apartment complex resident heard suspicious noises coming from his neighbors unit in the 8900 block of Kennedy Drive around 1:40 p.m. He would later call authorities and upon arrival, the Sheriff's Police caught an offender in an apartment while committing a burglary, according to the Sheriff's Department.   John W. Gilliam, 35, of Chicago, was charged with felony residential burglary, the Sherriff's Department said. He was issued a $100,000 bond and is set to appear at the Skokie Courthouse on Jan. 24. Student Stays Home Sick, Foils Burglary

The Des Plaines Police Department provided the following report

Ferris Bueller stayed home sick from school and Kevin McCallister scared off two burglars when he was Home Alone, but a 14-year-old Des Plaines boy managed both at the same time Thursday when he prevented an attempted break-in at his home. Earlier: $7,725 in diamond, emerald and ruby rings reported stolen Des Plaines Police were dispatched for an attempted burglary report in the 800 block of Spruance Place at 9:14 a.m. on Jan. 26. According to the report, a 14-year-old boy told police that he was home from school because he was feeling sick, when he observed a red pickup truck circle the block three times before pulling into the driveway of his home. The FBI released its 2010 Uniform Crime Report Monday. The north and northwest suburbs served by the Patch sites in Cook and Lake counties are listed below in charts for violent crimes and property crimes. The data reflect communities that reported crime statistics for all 12 months of 2010. Due to a change in state reporting methods, Illinois statistics from 2010 cannot be compared to 2009 statistics, according to the FBI. Glenview, Niles, Wilmette and Glencoe were not included in the FBI's release of data. Monday Blotter: Burglars Get $35,000 Worth Of Jewelry From Home

Man busted for hit and run after cops find him passed out in his vehicle.

Aggravated DUI May 15: Des Plaines police busted a man for a hit and run accident in Mount Prospect after they identified the man passed out in a vehicle that matched the description while it was parked in his driveway on the 800 block of East Touhy Avenue. Police say Luis Jose Moreno, 38, had a blood alcohol level of .237 and that a 12-pack of beer, missing eight cans, was found on the front seat as well as an open can in a cup holder. Tuesday Blotter: Elderly Couple Robbed, Teens Report Armed Robbery, Vehicle Theft

It was a theft-filled weekend here in good old Des Plaines.

Armed robbery Saturday March 12, police responded to a phone call from the mother of one of three teenage boys who said that they had been the victims of an armed robbery in an alley on the 800 block of S. Elmhurst Road, according to police reports. The three victims were walking in the alley after getting some food around 10:30 p.m. when a vehicle described as a green Jeep Cherokee SUV pulled up behind them. An unknown black male, described as being about 5'9" in height and around 250 lbs., got out of the vehicle, pulled out a black pistol and ordered two of the boys on the ground and demanded their money and cell phones, according to reports. Monday Blotter: Disorderly Conduct, Battery, Burglary

Truck driver's road rage goes a bit too far, scares woman and child.

Disorderly conduct Friday Feb. 11 a woman reported that she was driving westbound on Oakton Avenue when a truck began to pull out in front of her on the street. She honked her horn to alert the driver, who then pulled out into traffic blocking both lanes. He then exited the vehicle and approached the woman's car and began yelling obscenities at her. Their was a minor in her vehicle as well. The driver then got back into his truck and stuck up his middle finger at the woman and drove off. Vehicle theft Tuesday Jan. 18. Police received a phone call from Ace Rent-a-Car, 2985 S. Mannheim Road, reporting that a woman had failed to return a black Chevrolet Impala. They have made numerous attempts to reach the offender to no avail. Police are investigating. Burglary to vehicle Tuesday Jan. 18. Two men claiming to be police look for woman at apartment building.

Suspicious incident Wednesday Jan. 12 a woman reported that two men came to the door of her apartment, flashing badges and showed her a picture of a woman, asking if she had seen her before. The woman in the apartment hadn't and the two men left. She asked other residents of the building if the two men had approached any of them to which they replied 'no.' Burglary Wednesday Jan. 12 police responded to a call from a man at a business on the 2200 block of E. Devon Avenue who reported that a suite in the building had been burglarized. The intruders removed circuit boards and copper wiring from the suite. Total estimated property loss: $15,000. Restaurant burglarized after first attempt fails; thieves break into vehicle for... USB cord.

Battery Friday Dec. 31 at 2:30 a.m. police were dispatched to Resurrection Hospital in Chicago for a battery victim. The victim's girlfriend relayed to police that the victim had been dropped off at their joint residence by his brother after getting into an altercation with another man in a parking lot on the 800 block of E. Oakton Street. Police spoke with the victim, who said that he had been drinking with friends when approached by the offender. The victim did not want to pursue the matter and said he would not press charges if the offender was located. He was treated for minor injuries. Hi Darlene, from the police report it looks as though the building has several units in it that some people rent as apartments and others use like storage units and the like. The victim in this particular incident rents the space as studio space, such as storage for music equipment and the like from what I gathered. Does that help?
