Candidates in 10th District, State Senate contest vote and greet voters.
After more than a year of campaigning and millions of dollars spent, the voters of the 10th Congressional District will decide today if Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) will continue to represent them or the job will go to Democratic Challenger Brad Schneider of Deerfield. Voters will also choose the whether West Deerfield Township Supervisor Julie Morrison, a Democrat, or Republican Highland Park pediatrician Arie Friedman will succeed retiring state Sen. With the Nov. 6 general election nine days away and early voting into its second week, candidates for the United States Congress and the Illinois State Senate spent the weekend meeting voters and encouraging people to cast ballots. Rep. Candidates for Congress and the Illinois General Assembly met at Congregation B'nai Jehoshua Beth Elohim in Deerfield Monday for the North Shore Jewish Community Candidate forum. Incumbents, challengers and open-seat aspirants greet the crowds on the Fourth of July.
Along with marching bands, floats and civic organizations, elected officials and those who aspire to be public servants flock to participate on Fourth of July parades throughout the area. Deerfield’s parade was no exception. Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) walked with a large group of supporters a number of spaces behind his challenger for the 10th District Seat, Brad Schneider of Deerfield. Dold needed a spot toward the end of Deerfield’s noontime event because he was coming from Glenview, which started its parade at 11:30 a.m., before heading to Northbrook, as did Schneider, at 2 p.m. In addition to Deerfield and Northbrook, Schneider and Dold crossed paths in Vernon Hills. An ideological evolution for West Deerfield Township Supervisor Julie Morrison and Highland Park pediatrician Arie Friedman came close to a direct collision more than 20 years before they decided to try to replace retiring state Sen. Susan Garrett (D-Lake Forest). Friedman is seeking the Republican nomination in the March 20 primary for the 29th State Senate District seat and Morrison is after the Democratic nod.
