The next 30 days will be a transitional period for Des Plaines Mayor Marty Moylan as he finalizes his work at city hall before moving forward to represent the 55th Illinois House District in Springfield, IL.
A long week for Marty Moylan is coming to an end. The Des Plaines community member, volunteer, alderman, mayor, Democrat, and now elected state representative of the 55th Illinois House District won a closely fought battle with Park Ridge Republican Susan Sweeney by 2,585 votes. In the end it was Moylan: 20,715, 53.32 percent nosing out Sweeney: 18,130, 46.68 percent. Moylan was elected mayor in 2009, second ward alderman in 2007, and has been active in community projects in Des Plaines for more than 30 years. He said he will resign sometime in December. In his victory speech, Moylan said: "We started this journey 14 months ago, it was my brother and myself and all you guys, Teddy, everybody together we started with the petition drive.
