Walsten on Ballot, Sarlo Objection Cont. by Electoral Board

The Des Plaines Electoral Board reviewed two petition objections on Thursday and dismissed one.

Sixth Ward Alderman Mark Walsten’s name will appear on the ballot for mayor of Des Plaines in April, after all. A motion to dismiss an objection to Walsten’s petition signatures filed by Carl Mauter-Hollenbeck on Jan. 3 was made a Des Plaines Electoral Board meeting on Jan. 24. The Cook County Clerk’s Office performed a records check, said Gloria Ludwig, Des Plaines City Clerk and member of the Electoral Board, and found that more than the minimum number of required signatures were submitted, and his name would appear on the ballot. The minimum number of signatures required was 480, and Walsten submitted 586, Ludwig said. Walsten has previously stated be believes Third Ward Alderman Matt Bogusz’ mayoral campaign was behind the objection. …

Leys Drops out 7th Ward Race; Seeks Re-Election to D-207

D-207 Board of Education member Eric Leys filed documents to withdraw from the race to represent Des Plaines' Seventh Ward, Leys announced Wednesday.

There will be two candidates to represent the Seventh Ward in Des Plaines, not three, as one is set to withdraw. Maine Township High School District 207 Board of Education member Eric Leys announced he withdrew from the race for Seventh Ward Alderman in Des Plaines in a statement on Jan. 2. Leys stated he withdrew in order to focus more on his re-election campaign to D-207, and endorsed another candidate for the Seventh Ward, John Malloy, who holds many similar positions on a number of issues, Leys stated. Joanna Sojka will face Malloy in the Consolidated Election in April for the Seventh Ward seat.
