The Des Plaines Police Department provided the following reports. Criminal Damage to Property, Graffiti Police found a sign at the former Schwake Stone building, 1313 E. Rand Road, was vandalized with graffiti while on patrol at 9:26 a.m. on May 10. The graffiti was photographed, police stated, and a work order to clean it up was completed. Theft of Gas An unknown male subject left the BP gas station, 800 S. Elmhurst Road, after pumping 11 gallons of fuel and leaving without making a payment at 5:45 p.m. on May 11, according to a police report. Property loss was estimated at $45.82. The 1-year-old boy's mother and her boyfriend have been charged with the murder of Bryeon Hunter, who was first reported missing in April. The body was found near the Brookfield Zoo.
Police found the body of a young boy in the Des Plaines River near Brookfield Zoo on Tuesday afternoon, and it's believed to be 1-year-old Bryeon Hunter, whose parents have been charged with his murder. According to a Cook County Sheriff's Department news release, the body was spotted by a kayaker in the river near First Avenue and 31st Street. An autopsy will be performed Wednesday to identify the boy and determine the cause of death. The Chicago Tribune reported that the child's size and description fits that of Bryeon Hunter, who disappeared April 16. Since that time, police have searched the Des Plaines River. Hunter's mother Lakeshia Baker, 22, and her boyfriend Michael Scott, 21 have been charged with the boy's murder. Baker …
The National Transportation Safety Board recommends reducing the limit. Some say it would save lives. Others say it's unreasonable.
One drink could be the standard for drunken driving – at least for some people if the National Transporation Safety Board has its way. On Tuesday, the NTSB recommended states lower the blood-alcohol threshold for driving under the influence from 0.08 percent to 0.05 percent. About 10,000 deaths a year are related to drunken driving. The NTSB says the lower limit would save 500 to 800 lives a year. Officials at the American Beverage Institute called the proposal "ludicrous." It said the average woman could reach the 0.05 percent limit by having one drink. According to CyberDriveIllinois.com's 2013 DUI Fact Book, there were 10,175 DUI arrests in Cook County in 2011. A 41-year-old New Jersey missing person’s case has been solved as a result of an ongoing investigation to identify the unnamed victims of serial killer John Wayne Gacy, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today. Relatives of 16-year-old Steven Soden contacted the Cook County Sheriff’s Office in 2011 after hearing about Sheriff Dart’s efforts to identify the unnamed Gacy victims and suggested the possibility that Soden may be one of them. Gacy lived just south of Park Ridge and killed 33 teenage boys and young men in from 1972 to 1978. Seven of his victims remain unidentified. Des Plaines police first became involved in the case while following up leads of a missing Des Plaines teenager, Robert Piest. Des Plaines officers …

Northwest Highway were vandalized with graffiti, and reported to police at 8:44 a.m. on May 10. The graffiti was photographed, police stated, and a work order to clean it up was completed. Criminal Damage to Vehicle The rear window of a vehicle was smashed with a golf-ball-sized rock while it was parked in a parking lot on the 900 block of Beau Drive sometime between 10 p.m. on May 10 and 9:30 a.m. on May 11, police stated. Park Ridge residents and community groups gathered with elected officials and members of law enforcement to honor police killed in the line of duty on the steps of city hall on Monday. Members of the Illinois State Police Department, Cook County police, the Chicago Police Department and local police departments including Park Ridge, Niles and Des Plaines, participated in the ceremony, which was hosted by the Park Ridge Police Chaplains Association. Members of many law enforcement agencies including state and local police gathered with community members to honor those killed in the line of duty in Park Ridge on Monday. Members of the Illinois State Police Department, Cook County police, the Chicago Police Department and local police departments including Park Ridge, Niles and Des Plaines, participated in the ceremony, which was hosted by the Park Ridge Police Chaplains Association. The ceremony also commemorated National Police Week, which is May 12 to May 18. A number of different officials took turns reading the names of members of law enforcement killed in the line of duty. Theft A 6-foot by 3-foot black grill was reported stolen from a church on the 2300 block of Dempster Street at 2 p.m. on May 9, police stated. A witness told police a scrapper truck was seen taking the grill from the area, according to the report. The grill was recently donated to the church, according to the report, and property loss was estimated at $400. Working together with Michigan and Des Plaines police, Niles police found and arrested a charged a man for stealing $12,000 of chain saws from a Michigan store and selling them here to pawn shops.
Niles police investigated, and have charged the offender in, a theft operation in which a Niles man is charged with taking chainsaws, worth about $1,000 each, from a Williamstown, Mich. store and selling them here to pawn shops or on Craigslist, according to a police department press release. Niles police worked with Michigan and Wisconsin police agencies in the investigation. Williamstown, Mich. police contacted Niles police to say an offender had taken Stihl chainsaws from power equipment stores in their jurisdiction and about six others. A Des Plaines police officer fired last year for internal misconduct is allowed to return to work in the department, the Chicago Tribune reports. An arbitrator ruled that John Bueno, who was suspended in October of 2011 for internal misconduct and was later fired in March 2012, is allowed to return to work in June. The complaints involved an alleged beating that took place near the Des Plaines police station, the Journal & Topics reported. The police union and arbitrator agreed that Bueno was fired without just cause, the newspaper reports.
