August 1-4The Music Man

Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m.; Sundays at 2 p.m. Footlighters Theatre Company presentsThe Music Man, a Tony award winning musical by Meredith Willson, at the Prairie Lakes Theatre, 515 E. Thacker Street.

The Music Man is a romantic comedy about a traveling sales/con man who falls for a prim librarian in a sleepy little Iowa town in 1912. The Music Man features the unforgettable songs “76 Trombones,” “Ya Got Trouble,” “Goodnight Ladies,” “Goodnight My Someone,” and “Till There Was You.” Tickets available at www.DPParks.org.

August 2Putt for the Pantry

6 p.m., Mountain View Adventure Center, 510 E. Algonquin Rd., Des Plaines

The Self-Help Closet & Pantry of Des Plaines will hold its first-ever summer 
fundraiser, a miniature golf event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Mountain View Adventure Center, 510 E.  Algonquin Rd. in Des Plaines. Cost is $15 for adults ($12 with a donation of nonperishable food or paper products), $8 for children 12 and under and $5 for a hot dog, chips and a soda.

August 2 and August 3, St. Stephen 11th Annual Family Fest

7 p.m., 1280 Prospect Street, Des Plaines. Money from the event will go to St. Stephens. Food vendors include Allegretti’s Pizza, Pop-O-Licious, Bangkok Belly, Cream of the Crepe, El Fast Burrito.

Musical entertainment including Rick Saucedo and Triple Shot. Also, Dave Thomas, Sol Azteca Dancers, Banda Valle Verde and a DJ plus many more.

There will be craft and specialty vendors on Saturday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

This year we will also have bingo in the air conditioned comfort of 
Hanley Hall on Saturday from 2 pm to 4 pm. The bingo prizes are bigger with a $300 coverall. Plenty of activities geared toward children with rides and games.

August 3, Fifth Annual Fun Fest

Presence Holy Family Medical Center will host the 5th annual Fun Fest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3 at 100 N. River Road. Participants will enjoy a variety of family friendly activities, including free health screenings and assessments, children's activities, raffles and more, a press release states.

Kids are encouraged to bring a teddy bear or doll for a check-up, try out the Lattof YMCA climbing wall and partake in library story time. Ladies can enjoy an Avon makeover or a chair massage. Learn about local organizations and chat with elected officials, a press release states.

August 2-4, Garage Sale

Garage sales in River Manor Homes area near Grove and Woodland. Multi-family, a bit of everything including baby and kids stuff. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
