Cool Cruisers and Hot Dogs Event Coming to Des Plaines

Information submitted by Des Plaines.

Cool Cruisers and Hot Dogs, a car show benefiting the Boy Scouts of America Northwest Suburban Council’s Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics (STEM) Program, will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at Rand Red Hots, 1441 Rand Road.

The Northwest Suburban Council launched STEM earlier this year as an initiative to provide science, technology, engineering, and mathematics programs within the scouting framework, a press release states. So far, more than 250 scouts have participated in activities ranging from building their own cell phone chargers to flying airplanes.

Cool Cruisers and Hot Dogs provides a public setting for the scouts to come together with the community to highlight STEM.

The auto show is spearheaded by Scott Dueball, a local car enthusiast, Eagle Scout, biomechanical engineer at Life Fitness and founding member of the Boy Scout Council’s STEM committee. “Throughout college and now in my daily work, I continue to use the many valuable lessons and programs, such as STEM, which I experienced thanks to the Boy Scouts,” Dueball stated.

According to Mayor Bogusz, who, in 2004, was awarded his Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouting Program, the purpose of Cool Cruisers and Hot Dogs  is to showcase the many “great” programs available to youth through the Boy Scouts of America while enjoying modern classic automobiles and hotdogs.

“I learned a great deal as a Boy Scout in Des Plaines.  I’m excited to support one of their latest programs, designed to interest young men in science, technology, engineering and math,” Mayor Bogusz stated.
