Video: Maine South Defeats Wheaton Warrenville South

The big plays from Maine South's 13-9 victory over Wheaton Warrenville South Friday night.

Friday night’s matchup between Maine South and Wheaton Warrenville South in Park Ridge was dominated by defense. Maine South's defense would be too much for the Tigers, and the Hawks won 13-9.

Wheaton Warrenville South were the first to score when Patrick Gardner completed a 1-yard touchdown run to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead. The Hawks responded when Matt Alviti ran for a 2-yard touchdown at the end of the first quarter. Maine South trailed 7-6.

Maine South pulled ahead to 13-7 when Paul Preston ran the ball for 106 yards for a touchdown. Maine South linebacker Tyler Fahey made a big play in the fourth quarter when he tipped a pass and controlled it for an interception.

The Tigers had one last chance, but they could not convert a fourth-and-15 and the celebration was underway for Maine South.

The Hawks are 2-0 to begin the season, while Wheaton Warrenville South fell to 0-2. Maine South plays at Deerfield Sept. 9 and Wheaton Warrenville South returns home to take on Aurora West.
