No Kidding: Oakton 18, Truman 0

Oakton Raiders crush visitors with ease in women's soccer game shutout.

It isn't a misprint. It wasn't a basketball or football game either.

What it was: A brutal beat down.

Oakton Community College's women's soccer team walked out 18-0 winners over visiting Truman College in an unforgettable display---for many reasons--- on Monday evening.

Where to begin?

Truman College, which wasn't able to field a full team due to a multitude of reasons, saw its team down 9-0 at halftime.

Oakton's Sandra Mendoza had a hat trick within 21 minutes for the host Raiders.

Perhaps the easiest match ever for Oakton really hit its apex in a 30-second span about 15 minutes into the match.

Mendoza tapped in her second goal on 15 minutes and when the teams made their way upfield for the kickoff, it was shockingly easy for Oakton.

The ball was kicked off and after Oakton immediately intercepted a pass, its players raced up the field to tap home--this time from Aurea Mojica.

Trouble for Truman was only beginning when its goalkeeper, upon colliding with Mojica, was carried off with a knee injury.

This left Truman with eight players on the field: seven outfield players and a goalie. The small victories occurred for Truman when it was able to get the ball over the midfield line after being under incessant and never-ending pressure.

The underlying problem for Truman, and a bevy of other junior and community colleges, is the economic downturn. However, the school should still be able to afford--- not financially per se--- to field a adequate women's soccer team.

A soccer team, at any level, with only eight players shouldn't have been forced to take on such a monumental task: going against one of the best teams in the league while being short three necessary players, let alone no one on the bench.

But, in fairness to the Raiders, they can only play whom they are scheduled to go against.

For Oakton, it is four wins and four losses on the year. The team will take on Lindenwood-Belleville and Prairie State next week.
