Maine West Homecoming Schedule 2012: ‘Pirate's Life for West’ Theme

Homecoming assembly, court, parade, game, dance and more are all part of the tradition.

Traditions of many kinds will be kept in Maine West High School’s homecoming events this weekend. There will be an hour-and-a-half homecoming assembly at 12:30 p.m. with lots of fun activities based on this year’s theme — “Pirates’ Life for West” — said Dave Berendt, principal for students.

Berendt, who’s been in education for 20 years and a principal for students for six years, said they always have a lot of fun with the homecoming theme. In addition to the marching band, cheerleaders, poms, the homecoming court, the Warrior’s dance, the announcement of the annual school charity voted on by students, class games and other activities, Berendt said there would be some surprises.

Careful not to give away too many details, Berendt said something would be stolen during the rally.

“Only a mystery guest is going to be able to help us find it,” Berendt said.

The parade will include local politicians, the police and fire departments, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, last year’s and this year’s homecoming court, 15-20 student clubs and organizations including the Hispanic heritage club, radio and television club and the National Honor Society.

Maine West vs. Glenbrook North Football Game

When/Where: Friday, Oct. 5, 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at Maine West High School Stadium.

More info: The Warrior will perform the fight song and, as has been done in the past, light up a large MW.

Homecoming Fireworks

When/Where: Friday, Oct. 5, 11 p.m. to 11:20 p.m. at Maine West High School Stadium.

Homecoming Dance

When/Where: Saturday, Oct. 6, from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. in the gymnasium at Maine West High School.

More info: The wristband policy will be in effect to deter inappropriate behavior on the dance floor, Berendt said. Everyone is given a wristband in the beginning. After an infraction, the wristband is removed. If a second incident occurs students will be taken off the dance floor, and their parents called to pick them up. Berendt said, since enacting the policy within the last year, inappropriate behavior on the dance floor has not been a significant issue.
