Park Ridge Rotary Club gives school grant, and students are painting it.

When students from foreign countries enter Maine East High School for the first time, they will likely see the word "welcome" in their language in a mural near the front lobby.

The school is known for its diversity, and has students from about 60 language backgrounds. Now, students are painting a mural that welcomes kids in 16 languages, according to Pioneer Online.

Chicago artist Gino Savarino designed the mural in geometric shapes in earth-tone colors, and Principal Michael Pressler had the idea of placing it near the front lobby, said Kathy Malyszko, a coordinator of the project and a mental-health counselor at the school-based health center.

The Park Ridge Rotary Club provided a grant and 33 students helped in painting the mural.
