Art Exhibit First of Seven to Feature Illinois and Chicago Artists in 2012

Only two more weeks to check out the current exhibition, which includes prints from world-renowned artists.

The public has two more weeks to enjoy a free art exhibition of fine prints at . Artists from around the world, including several from Chicago, are represented in the group, and will be displayed until Jan. 20 at Oakton’s Koehnline Museum of Art, 1600 E. Golf Road.

Gems from the Koehnline includes works from Chicago artists Alexander Sandor Raymond Katz, who was an illustrator, muralist and painter, Milton Horn, sculptor, Nathaniel Steinberg, painter, illustrator and etcher, and Frances Foy, who painted in oil and watercolor.

Other artists include Scottish painter and printmaker William Strang, Czech painter and printmaker Tavik Frantisek Simon, Russion illustrator and poster artist Dmitry Moor and Japanese printmaker Ando Hiroshige.

The Koehnline Museum of Art, which has been located in the same gallery space on Oakton’s campus since 1994, is expected to host seven exhibitions in 2012, including the current one, said Steve Repsys, spokesman for Oakton.

Other exhibitions will include paintings, drawings, ceramics, sculptures, digital art and photography. The museum has a policy to acquire 60 percent of its works from Illinois and Chicago artists.

Next up for the museum is Two plus Two = Jackson, Owens, Williams and Wheatley, four Chicago artists, running Feb. 2 to March 23. Preston Jackson, a sculpture professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, “delves into the nation’s past through depictions of well-known individuals and innovative portrayals of less familiar figures who none-the-less played an important role in our history,” according to the museums website.

Museum hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
