Iconic, renowned, award-winning, highest quality – these are some of the words and phrases used to describe National Geographic magazine, the official journal of the National Geographic Society. The magazine is famous for its superb coverage of different cultures, the environment, travel and nature — all with the goal of teaching people to love their planet.
At the library we often get calls from people who want to donate their beloved old copies of the magazine. They no longer have room to save them but they’re too precious to just throw away.
We think we’ve found the perfect solution. You can now access the entire National Geographic archive from 1888-1994 online through the Des Plaines Public Library website. And you can feel better about recycling those musty old magazines knowing that every beautiful photograph and fascinating article are a mouse-click away.
As one of our librarians said when we were discussing the possibility of adding this subscription, “I wouldn’t say yes to an online archive for just any magazine, but National Geographic is special.” We hope you’ll agree.
The magazine is available to everyone at the library and to Des Plaines cardholders from home.
