Sweeney Looking Ahead to November
The Republican write-in candidate for the 55th District "thrilled" with turnout.
, a Republican from Park Ridge running to represent Illinois’ newly-drawn 55th House District, will likely appear on the general election ballot, as . Sweeney needed at least 500 to get on the ballot.
Sweeney said when they knew about 2,500 write-in votes were cast, she was hopeful they would get a large portion of those.
“I was thrilled to see that we a huge portion,” Sweeney said. “To gather over 2,300 votes in less than two months as a write-in campaign speaks volumes to the support and what I have to offer the people in this district.”

“I’m going to continue knocking on doors and meeting people, and it’s just a continual process from here on out,” Sweeney said.
“I’m incredibly grateful and humbled by what just happened,” Sweeney said. “I think I had an amazing outpouring of support, and now I just have to work on a transition to November,” she added.
Sweeney will face , a Democrat, in the race to represent the district.
The representative from the represents towns in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, including portions of Elk Grove Village, , Park Ridge and Rosemont.
