Des Plaines residents will have an opportunity to ask questions of and listen to those candidates seeking election in November to represent them in Illinois state government at a debate coordinated by Journal and Topics Newspapers at , on Oct. 24, Journal and Topics Newspapers reported. The candidates will answer questions about their plans, if elected.
Candidates for the Illinois 55th State House District, which includes portions of Des Plaines, Elk Grove Village, Park Ridge and Rosemont are Democrat and Des Plaines Mayor Marty Moylan, and Republican Susan Sweeney, who garnered enough write-in ballots in the primary in March to appear on the November ballot. Moylan and Sweeney have not yet completed questionnaires about their backgrounds and positions on policies sent by Patch.
The candidates for the Illinois 28th State Senate District, which includes portions of Des Plaines, Roselle, Schaumburg, Elk Grove Village and Rosemont, are Sen. Dan Kotowski, a Democrat, and Jim O’Donnell, a Republican. Kotowski and O’Donnell completed questionnaires about their backgrounds and positions on issues including the state’s unfunded pension liability, Illinois’ reputation for corruption in politics and more.

Questions will also be taken from the audience on Oct. 24, and the debate will be shown on Des Plaines cable channel 17.
