Obituary: Ted Sherwood, Former Mayor of Des Plaines

Edward F., “Ted,” Sherwood, 91, former mayor of Des Plaines, passed away on March 11, 2013.

Beloved husband for 57 years of the late Jean (nee Burson).

Loving father of Steve Sherwood, Kevin (Debra) Sherwood and the late Leslie (David) Krowka.

Cherished grandfather of Justin (Joanna) Sherwood, Kyle (Jamie) Sherwood,

Jennifer Krowka, Sarah Krowka, Ryan Sherwood and Matthew (Ashley) Sherwood.

Proud great grandfather of Kathryn, Meredith, Brendan, Ashlyn, Nathan, Kaley, Kody and Riley.

Dear brother of Donald (Mary), Dorothy (late Bill), late John (Alice) and the late Joe (Mary).

Mr. Sherwood moved to Des Plaines in 1961 and served as mayor of Des Plaines from 1993 to 1997.

He was a World War II Army veteran, president of White Collar Services in 1961, extraordinary minister at St. Stephens Church in Des Plaines, president of the Des Plaines Chamber of Commerce and was active with youth groups. He also was Chairman of the Des Plaines Economic Development Commission and a member of the Des Plaines Elks Club.

Visitation will be at G.L. Hills Funeral Home, 745 Graceland Ave. in Des Plaines, 3-9 p.m. on Monday, March 18.

A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 19. Interment will be at Ridgewood Cemetery in Des Plaines Des Plaines.

I believe the aldermen are Denise Rodd south of Dempster and Dick Sayad north. Contact them.Read More Although I do not live in Rodd's ward (Im in the 8th) I am somehow on her mailing list and she keeps wanting to know what she can do for me. Here is something.

I suggest contacting the alderman to raise the profile of what these streets need.
