Notre Dame Toasts Bogusz, Two Other Alumni Who Are Mayors

By Pam DeFiglio

When Andrew Przybylo '69, Dan DiMaria '85 and Matt Bogusz '05 studied in the Notre Dame College Prep library, chances are nobody threw cocktail parties there. And if they had, the teachers would have kept the three students far away from the alcohol.

But the Catholic boys' high school threw a cocktail reception at the library Thursday to show some love to the three alumni, who were elected mayors of Niles, Morton Grove and Des Plaines, respectively, in April.

Rev. John Smyth, president of Notre Dame, in Niles, took the opportunity to tell the assembled alumni, friends and family members about developments at the school in recent years.

"The three mayors have really learned--faith, education and service," said Fr. Smyth. "Those pillars were here when the mayors went to Notre Dame, and they're still here."

DiMaria, who is sending his son to Notre Dame next year, recalled that he was the Homecoming King as a student.

"That was probably my first participation in politics," he said. "People nominated me, and I won. I'll tell you, it was like a brotherhood here."
