Moylan Wins 55th House District

Now former Des Plaines Mayor Marty Moylan (D) has officially won his race against Republican Susan Sweeney for the 55th District Illinois House.

Marty Moylan has officially won the 55th Illinois House District seat. He beat his competitor, Republican Susan Sweeney, by approximately 2,000 votes.

"The thing that put me over the top was everybody's hard work," Moylan said.

"The campaign was decided on the issues," Moylan added. "I'm like a moderate in this district. People made their decision based on issues, not the personalities."

A number of Des Plaines aldermen showed up in support of Moylan’s candidacy at his campaign headquarters and at The Bar, 1569 Oakton St. in Des Plaines, where he gave his victory speech.

"I thought he was the best fit for Des Plaines, and Des Plaines would benefit the most by having him represent the 55th," said Sixth Ward Alderman Mark Walsten. "Sweeney has zero experience in government. It so happens she is a Republican, which I'm not against, but the fact that it's a Democratic controlled legislature, you're going to get the most from someone who is allied with the current legislature."
