Moylan Sworn in as 55th State Representative

Former Des Plaines Marty Moylan was sworn in as 55th District State Representative Wednesday.

Former Des Plaines Mayor Marty Moylan was sworn in to the Illinois House of Representatives on Wednesday.

Moylan . The 55th District is entirely in Cook County and includes parts of Arlington Heights, Chicago, Des Plaines, Elk Grove, Mount Prospect, Park Ridge and Rolling Meadows.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues and community leaders to provide the residents much needed relief during these difficult times,” Moylan stated in a press release. “While the state has made progress in the past couple of years, I plan to build on that momentum in my first term and help solve the state’s most pressing issues.”

Moylan was elected mayor in 2009, second ward alderman in 2007, and has been active in community projects in Des Plaines for more than 30 years. Before becoming an elected official, the Des Plaines Democrat served as a Business Representative for the Illinois Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 134 for more than 20 years.

Moylan has pledged to sponsor legislation that freezes property taxes when home values decline.

“There is much work to be done and the state needs to continue to tighten its fiscal belt and live within its means,” Moylan stated in a press release. “I am grateful that I have been given this opportunity to serve the 55th District and I will hit the ground running. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the upcoming General Assembly to right Illinois’ fiscal ship and provide relief to the hard-working families of my district and the state.”
