Bar co-owner John Grammatis said they were “in it for the long run” and have plans to draw in more customers. Owners are working to place ads at nearby Metra stations to drive foot traffic and want to purchase an ID scanner to help continually improve security at the bar, Grammatis said.

A dress code has been established and bar owners will only allow patrons over 21 with Illinois state IDs to enter, Grammatis said.

Des Plaines Police Chief Jim Prandini told Council Members there have been no problems stemming from the bar’s customers and there haven’t been any issues with underage drinking there.

Some aldermen voted against the change of license ownership.

“It perpetuates the 4 a.m. license,” said Fifth Ward Alderman James Brookman.

Grammatis said that patrons are not allowed to enter the bar after 2 a.m., which would eliminate rowdier customers coming from other bars.

Sixth Ward Alderman Mark Walsten said he supported the business.

“We live in a 24-hour area” where not everyone works from 9 to 5, Walsten said, mentioning that the bar might see increased patronage from workers at Rivers Casino. The Casino is open from 9 a.m. to 7 a.m. everyday, according to its website.
