Miner Street Bus Stop to Stay Put

After months of discussion and debate, the Pace bus shelter on the 1400 block of Miner Street will not be relocated to the northeast corner of Miner and Pearson streets. voted for the bus shelter to remain in its current location, 8-0, in a motion made by First Ward Alderman Patricia Haugeberg at a meeting Monday.

Haugeberg met with residents near the proposed location and city staff about three months ago to discuss the proposal and address their concerns, she said in an interview with Patch.

“We had the expense of having the testing and then the expense of putting a shelter there that would really protect the residents in regards to the noise and the exhaust and everything else — it’s just not feasible to do it,” Haugeberg said.

In the proposal, the small bus shelter was to be replaced by a large bus staging area with a larger structure than the one at the current stop in order to address residents’ concerns about noise and fumes.

Haugeberg said she motioned for the bus stop to remain in its current location based in large part on recommendations from city staff and potential issues communicated by residents.

“It’s done; it’s over,” Haugeberg said. “The bus stop remains where it’s at.”
