Interim Mayor to Serve if Moylan Elected to House

Des Plaines Mayor Martin Moylan would step down as mayor if he wins the 55th House District and allow city council to appoint an interim mayor until the election in April, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Des Plaines Mayor Martin Moylan would step down as mayor, he said, if he is successful in his bid to represent Illinois’ 55th House District on Nov. 6, the Chicago Tribune reported. If he is defeated by Park Ridge’s Susan Sweeney, he would run for mayor again, he said.

Sweeney was endorsed by the Chicago Tribune over Moylan, the newspaper reported in another story.

Rep. Rosemary Mulligan, a Republican who has represented the 65th District for nearly 20 years, and who would be the incumbent for the newly drawn district, which includes portions of Des Plaines, Elk Grove Village, Park Ridge and Rosemont, is expected to endorse Moylan in a letter sent to residents next week, Journal and Topics Newspapers reported.

Mulligan’s petition signatures were challenged in January and she did not appear on the primary ballot, and did not receive enough write-in votes in order to appear on the ballot in November. Mulligan is also the committeeman for the Maine Township Republicans.

A message left at the city clerk’s office regarding the process of appointing an interim mayor was not returned at publication time.

So far in the Des Plaines mayoral race Sixth Ward Alderman Mark Walsten and former Des Plaines Mayor Tony Arredia announced their candidacies.

A debate between candidates for the 55th House District and 28th Senate District will occur at Des Plaines City Hall on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. The forum will include candidates for the 55th House District Moylan and Sweeney as well as candidates for the 28th Senate District Sen. Dan Kotowski and Jim O’Donnell.

I believe the aldermen are Denise Rodd south of Dempster and Dick Sayad north. Contact them.Read More Although I do not live in Rodd's ward (Im in the 8th) I am somehow on her mailing list and she keeps wanting to know what she can do for me. Here is something.

I suggest contacting the alderman to raise the profile of what these streets need.
