Memorial Day Events

When/Where: Monday, May 28, 8:15 a.m. at , 9 a.m. at and 11 a.m. at .

Why Go:

Des Plaines will honor all those who gave their lives in defense of freedom. We will also be honoring all those men and women who have served or are serving today. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2992 and American Legion Post 36 will have three ceremonies on Memorial Day.

  • 8:15 a.m. All Saints Cemetery & Mausoleum; there will be a brief ceremony and wreath-laying at the main flag pole.
  • 9 a.m. Ridgewood Memorial Cemetery; there will be a ceremony and wreath-laying at the Veterans Memorial area.
  • 11 a.m. Lake Park Memorial Pavilion at Lake Park; The main event of the day to include the Maine West High School Band lead by Bernie Gerstmeier, with a guest speaker and local politicians. Local clubs and organizations will lay wreathes.

Duckworth to Honor Women and Military

When/Where: Monday, May 28 at 1 p.m. at .

Why Go: Tammy Duckworth, a candidate for the 8th U.S. House district, will lead a program of gratitude and memorial for the women, both in the military and on the home front, during World War II and on to today’s global conflicts.

An outdoor ceremony is planned featuring the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2992, Girl Scout Troop #41478, and other community groups.

Refreshments will be served following the ceremony.

When/Where: Sunday, May 27, 8 a.m., at Miner School, 1101 E. Miner St. in Arlington Heights.

Celebrate Memorial Day weekend and help nonprofit organization SALUTE, INC. based in Arlington Heights continue its mission to provide
financial assistance to military personnel and their families.

Choose to run 5k, 10k or try the new SALUTE tactical challenge or walk 5k and form an 
honorary team.
