From Book to Movie, 'The Invention of Hugo Cabret'

Kids can enter a trivia contest at the library to win a copy of the book.

This week’s column was submitted by Courtney Schade of the .

On Nov. 23 the movie Hugo hits theaters. This movie, like so many others coming out of Hollywood these days, is based on a children’s novel, the Caldecott Award winning The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick.

It isn’t often that a novel receives a Caldecott Award, the award reserved for excellence in illustrations that is usually bestowed upon a picture book, but then again, this is no ordinary book. In addition to the movie coming to theaters, Brian’s second illustrated novel, Wonderstruck, was recently released. These novels, a woven tale of wonder using both pictures and words to tell the story, are unbelievable to behold.
