Des Plaines Council Supportive of Fountain Blue Tent Extension

An 18-month extension for Fountain Blue to continue using a large tent for banquets and weddings advanced another step after a 5-3 vote by the City Council.

A majority of the council supported the extension at a prior meeting despite noise complaints by numerous residents about the tent, at 2300 Manheim Road. Fountain Blue has been cited five times for noise, convicted four times and fined $700, city officials said. The 6,000 square foot tent has been up more than two years.

City staff recommended 20 conditions be met for the tent to continue being used. Among the conditions were that a wall be built to block out noise. Fountain Blue plans to build a 12-foot high wall of three-inch thick cedar with noise absorbing material.

The extension still must be granted final approval by the council.
