Sweeney is running on a family values platform. Maybe I am a little slow here, but how does divorcing your husband in 1993 extend to family values?

Susan Sweeney doesn't live in the district. Her campaign office is outside of the district. Most of her campaign money comes from Tea Party groups from downstate Illinois (outside of the district). Her campaign staff are from Tom Cross' office (far away from the district). She hasn't been involved in the district. She has never fought for anything in the district. She has no leadership experience. She has no track record and calls herself a community activist. She is kinda like a Republican Obama, but she doesn't even have local Republican support. Local Republican leaders and local GOP elected officials think she's an extremist and won't support her. Because she has no experience, no track record of involvement in the district and not supported by lifelong resident Republicans, Sweeney has no choice but to run a mean spirited and negative campaign. She has no plan. She doesn't have a grasp of the local issues. She's in over her head. The Tea Party needed a candidate for the open seat and she jumped. If she ran a positive campaign, she would at least be respected. Voters hate the mean spirited campaigns. Now, she'll probably lose and people will remember how she and her campaign lacked class. Won't matter though as she won't run into any of the voters since she lives far outside of the district.
