Des Plaines Road Construction Updates Week of Oct. 22

Sixth Avenue from Forest to Van Buren: The contractor will continue any miscellaneous cleanup and other contracted tasks, also known as punch list work.

The contractor is scheduled to pave the following streets beginning Oct. 22. The work is expected to take approximately 3 to 4 days to complete.

  • Birchwood Avenue from Wolf to Douglas
  • Elmira Avenue from South End to Birchwood
  • Jarvis Avenue from East End to Douglas
  • Douglas Avenue from Jarvis to South End

Access to streets and driveways may be restricted during working hours, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, according to the notification letter. Residents are asked to avoid parking on the street within the work limits during working hours, the letter stated, and to park on alternate side streets where possible.

The contractor will continue miscellaneous cleanup of the job sites and begin sod replacement late in the week.

 

Alley between Ashland Avenue and Oakwood Avenue, and between Center Street and White Street:

In the seccond phase of the project the alleys were opened to vehicle traffic via Center Street or White Street on Oct. 12. The contractor will pour the concrete alley entrances on Cora Street this week. The estimated date the alley entrances will be opened on Cora Street is Friday afternoon, Oct. 19.

Asphalt pavement patching will be completed by the end of the week. Landscaping will also be completed by the end of this week. No parking will be allowed on the south side of Ashland Avenue starting Oct. 22, which coincides with parking restrictions for leaf pickup by the Des Plaines Public Works and Engineering Department.

 

Cora Street from Oakwood Avenue to Algonquin Road:

The city is waiting for AT&T to adjust the height of their utility manhole on Cora Street. The city cannot pave the surface layer of asphalt pavement until this is completed. AT&T told the city they hope to complete this by the end of this week. The final layer of asphalt pavement will be paved as soon as possible.

 

Wolf Road from Thacker Street and Dempster Street to Rose Street:
