Des Plaines Road Construction Updates Week of Oct. 1

The following road construction updates were published on the City of Des Plaines’ website and on Des Plaines Patch. All work is weather dependent. Unknown utilities and conflicts may also cause delays. Click here to for all the construction updates for Des Plaines.

Sixth Avenue from Forest to Van Buren: The contractor will continue any miscellaneous cleanup and other contracted tasks, also known as punch list work.

Birchwood Avenue from Wolf to Douglas: The contractor will begin placement of topsoil for the parkway restoration and continue miscellaneous cleanup of the jobsite.

Elmira Avenue from South End to Birchwood: The contractor will begin placement of topsoil for the parkway restoration and continue miscellaneous cleanup of the jobsite.

Jarvis Avenue from East End to Douglas: The contractor will begin placement of topsoil for the parkway restoration and continue miscellaneous cleanup of the jobsite.

Douglas Avenue from Jarvis to South End: The contractor will begin placement of topsoil for the parkway restoration and continue miscellaneous cleanup of the jobsite.

Alley between Ashland & Oakwood, and between Center & White: The estimated date the alley will be open to vehicle traffic is Friday, Oct. 12.

Cora Street from Oakwood to Algonquin: The city is waiting for AT&T to adjust the height of their utility manhole on Cora. The city cannot pave the surface layer of asphalt pavement until this is completed.

Wolf Road from Thacker and Dempster to Rose: Pavement striping will be performed in the near future.

Everett Avenue from Plainfield to Dexter: Pavement striping will be performed in the near future.

The Des Plaines Public Works and Engineering Department received notification that the Union Pacific Railroad has updated the railroad crossing repair schedule. Work will begin at 8 a.m. on the scheduled dates, and signage will be installed seven days prior to beginning work:

  • Oakton Street, between Wolf Road and Mt. Prospect Road, is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 8.
  • Algonquin Road, between Wolf Road and Mt. Prospect Road, is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 22.
  • Mt. Prospect Road, between Touhy Avenue and Howard Street, is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 22.
  • East River Road, between Central Avenue and Golf Road, is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 5.
  • Wolf Road, between Thacker Street and Golf Road, is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 5.
