Des Plaines River Expected to Be at Flood Stage Until Friday

Additional rain is not expected to cause a renewed rise on the Fox and Des Plaines rivers, the National Weather Service stated, but it may prolong existing high water levels.

The Des Plaines River is slowly receding and was forecasted to finally dip below flood stage height on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Flood stage is 7 feet, according to the National Weather Service, and the Des Plaines River was at 7.83 feet at 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24.

A flood warning remained in effect for Des Plaines and Fox rivers on Wednesday morning, the National Weather Service stated.

There was a half-inch to three-quarter of an inch of rainfall across Northeast Illinois during the last 24 hours, the National Weather Service stated.
