Building Permit Fees Waived for Flood Damage

Officials encourage residents to get required paperwork for projects after July 23 storm.

City officials waived building permit fees for flood-related damage at last night’s city council meeting.

Acting City Manager Jason Slowinski said the city has received more than 1,500 reports from residents who sustained damage to their homes after a record-breaking storm on July 23  that brought more than six inches of rain in three hours.

Building permit fees vary in cost depending on the project but can add up to hundreds of dollars, according to the city’s website.

Work will still be inspected upon completion to ensure it was done properly, Slowinski said. Penalties for building without a permit include fines.

Building permit fees were also waived in August 2007 and September 2008 after severe weather. There is no deadline for these flood-related projects.
