Ald. Walsten to Run for Des Plaines Mayor

Sixth Ward Aldermen Mark Walsten will officially announce his bid for mayor at Café la Cave Restaurant in Des Plaines next week.

The race for Des Plaines mayor in 2013 now has two candidates. Sixth Ward Alderman Mark Walsten stated his intent to run for the position in a press release on Thursday. Walsten stated he will make the official announcement at .

Walsten joins former Des Plaines mayor Tony Arredia as candidates. , Journal and Topics Newspapers reported.

Mayor Marty Moylan, whose first term will end in 2013, is running for state representative in the 55th House District.

Walsten stated some accomplishments that qualify as a candidate for mayor, including accelerating the storm water master plan to reduce flooding, worked on budgets that resulted in a zero percent tax increase for Des Plaines residents for the last two years, reduced government debt by $20 million and reduced staff by 50 members.

The first day candidates can pick up informational packets to run and distribute petitions is Sept. 25. .

Third Ward Alderman Matthew Bogusz and Fourth Ward Alderman Dick Sayad have also expressed interest in running for mayor, but have not announced their candidacies.
