Wednesday Blotter: Two Pedestrians Hit by Car, Alleged Scrapper Cited, More

Traffic Crash

Police were dispatched to the 1300 block of E. Touhy Avenue at 8:04 a.m. on Feb. 27. According to the report, two pedestrians walking northbound across Touhy Avenue were struck in the median by a car traveling westbound on Touhy Avenue, after turning left from Chestnut Street. Both victims were injured and transported to Lutheran General Hospital. The driver received a citation for driving too fast for conditions.

Police responded to a vandalism report in the 500 block of W. Lance Drive. According to the report, sometime between 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 22 and 12:15 a.m. on Feb. 23 an unknown offender smashed the driver’s side window and mirror on an SUV. Nothing was reported missing from the vehicle.

A broken “King Cobra” beer bottle was laying on the street next to the truck, and the driver’s side mirror was forced into the opposite direction as if the beer bottle was thrown from a vehicle traveling eastbound on Lance Drive.

Suspended Driver’s License, Unlawful Conduct of Operations

While on patrol police observed a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up drive through several side streets on the west side of Des Plaines, and stop in the 400 block of Farthing Lane at 2:35 p.m. on Feb. 22. According to the report, the offender, later identified as Cesar Pedraza-Bey, 28, of Chicago, got out of the pick-up and picked up scrap, a discarded ironing board from the parkway.

Police reported that Pedraza-Bey’s pick-up did not have any business markings on the “Junk Wagon.”

After checking Pedraza-Bey’s name police learned his license was suspended. He was issued citations for unlawful conduct of operations and driving on a suspended driver’s license. Pedraza-Bey was given a court date of April 4 at Skokie courthouse.
