Wednesday Blotter: Man Barks at Dog Training Staff

Police reported driver with alcohol on his breath became irate after he asked for direction.

The Des Plaines Police Department provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Howling Mad at Dog Training Business

Police were called to a dog training business in the 1300 block of Rand Road on Aug. 24. According to the report, an employee told police after another employee provided Bryan R. Ferguson, 47, of Morton Grove, directions. Ferguson began yelling curse words in front of employees and customers, several of whom were children.

Police reported Ferguson had alcohol on his breath. Ferguson was charged with trespassing, and has court date of Sept. 14.

While conducting a traffic stop in the 900 block of East Oakton Street around 3:30 a.m. Aug. 14, police smelled the odor of cannabis smoke coming from inside the vehicle. When questioned about the smell Manuel Gallegos, 18, of Des Plaines, told police he smoked weed inside his vehicle a few days ago.

When asked if there was any cannabis in the vehicle, Gallegos told police he had a glass bowl in his backpack, which he handed to police.

Gallegos was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and was given a court date of Sept. 14 at the Skokie courthouse.

Shattered Window

Vandalism was reported in the 800 block of Oakton Street around 9 a.m. Aug. 24. According to the report, the office manager of a business in a building told police that a projectile, possibly a BB pellet, was used to shatter the front window. According to the report, surveillance video showed the incident occurred at 8:20 p.m. Aug. 23.

Underage Beer Consumption

While on patrol, police observed a Des Plaines teenager walking northbound in the roadway at the 1300 block of South River Road at 4:25 a.m. Aug. 24. According to the report, Dawid J. Tomasz, 18, told police he had three or four beers at a friend’s house, and was walking home.

Tomasz was taken into custody without incident and issued citations for underage consumption of alcohol and for being an intoxicated pedestrian in the roadway.
