Wednesday Blotter: Man Attempts Generator Theft

Would-be thieve flees scene near the 800 block of Northwest Place after being confronted.

The Des Plaines Police Department provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Attempted theft of generator

July 12: Police were dispatched to the 800 block of Northwest Place to investigate the attempted theft of a power generator. According to the report, the offender grabbed a green wheelbarrow from the 800 block of West Grant Drive and tried to take the generator that was chained to a utility pole near the 800 block of Northwest Place. When the man was confronted by two people, he fled the scene before police arrived.

2 vehicles burglarized

July 11: Police were dispatched to the 500 block of Easy Street to investigate the ransacking of two vehicles. According to the report, a vehicle registration and an iPod charger were stolen from one of the vehicles.

Mailbox vandalized

July 11: Police responded to the 300 block of Westmere Road in regards to a vandalism complaint. According to the report, a metal mailbox was damaged when a firecracker was apparently placed inside it at about 10 p.m.

Theft of bicycle

July 11: Police responded to the 1000 block of Arnold Court in regards to a theft. According to the report, a bicycle owner said the offender asked if he could try his bicycle. Once on the bike, the offender rode northbound on Arnold Court and did not return.
